Welcome to the new The Sock Empire website!

In our new e-shop you can browse and buy attractive, original, accessibly priced, designer sock knitting patterns. We have drawn inspiration for our patterns from the world around us – in our first pattern Collection, the world of Ancient Cyprus.

The creative spark for The Sock Empire was lit in 2011 on the beautiful island of Cyprus as we looked at ancient ruins on that historic island. Why not, we thought, bring together a love for sock-knitting and the beauty of the world around us?

Our Ancient Cyprus Collection is (we believe) a new idea in sock-knitting: The Sock Empire's original creative idea is to forge strong aesthetic links, over complete Collections of designer socks,  between human creativity (in this case, ancient architecture and mosaic composition) and sock design.

We at The Sock Empire are motivated by:-

• a passion for sock-knitting!
• a desire to take an inspiration from the world around us – art, architecture, culture, geography, a human activity – and to use that inspiration to shape an original sock work.

There are several things you can be sure of with our designs and patterns:-

• they are original to The Sock Empire.
• they are affordable yet creative.
• they offer a range of knitting difficulties.
• the yarn we have used for the sock is easily available, though you can always choose to use another yarn if you wish.
• you are bound to have fun knitting our socks!

On our site, you can either buy individual designs or, at a considerable saving, the whole Collection. The Ancient Cyprus Collection comprises 10 different sock designs, some more suitable for men, some for women. Some of the designs are in single-colour yarn. Others use two or three different colours. There are patterns using beads, and designs without beads. Would you like to knit a sock cuff-down or toe-up? We have designs for both in this Collection.

All of our sock designs come in different sizes and with carefully worked-out tension gauge instructions, so that you can be sure of knitting the right sock for you.

Whether you are an experienced sock-knitter or new to the idea, why not give one of our designs – or even a whole Collection! - a go? We believe you will find many hours of engrossing enjoyment in knitting our socks.
